Breckenridge Village, a not-for-profit retirement community, is dedicating “The Veale Wellness and Aquatic Center”, located at 4950 Northridge Drive, Willoughby, on Thursday, January 20, 2011, from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM.

The $3.75 million dollar cost of the spacious new 7,000 square-foot facility was paid entirely through donations. The charitable gifts were raised during a recent capital campaign. Well-known Cleveland area philanthropist, Tinkham Veale II, and the Veale Foundation funded the lead gift for the wellness and aquatic center.

Unlike other area health clubs and facilities, The Veale Wellness and Aquatic Center is designed with older adults in mind, especially those recovering from illness or surgery. Breckenridge Village is partnering with “Rehabilitex” of Solon, to provide advanced long-term and short-term rehabilitation programs for joint and hip replacement recipients, post-operative rehabilitation, balance and cardiovascular rehabilitation programs for campus and community older adults.

With the addition of The Veale Wellness and Aquatic Center, Breckenridge Village is able to offer a complete fitness program for its more than 600 residents and nearly 400 staff members.

“Exercise classes have always been among our offerings, but this new space will allow us to provide so much more that will address residents’ physical and social needs, and work in tandem with the various levels of care that are available here,” said David Schell, Executive Director, Breckenridge Village.

Among the many features of The Veale Wellness and Aquatic Center are a warm water therapy and lap pool, a clubroom, fitness and exercise studios, massage rooms and a walking track.

Donors and other special guests will be treated to an interactive Dedication and Celebration of The Veale Wellness and Aquatic Center. Besides an adult synchronized swim team that will perform (See third page), a professional pocket billiards instructor will be on hand to demonstrate some trick shots in the clubroom. (See fourth page) Raun Hairdressers and Day Spa of Willoughby has partnered with Breckenridge Village to provide massage therapy at the Wellness Center and will be on hand for chair massages during the Dedication.

Breckenridge Village is one of 11 retirement communities owned and operated by OPRS Communities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services (OPRS), headquartered in Columbus. Since 1922, OPRS has defined the highest standards of quality of life for older adults. Each year, OPRS serves more than 80,000 people in 38 counties annually through its wholly owned subsidiaries OPRS Communities and Senior Independence.
